Our surveyor, the American Boat and Yacht Council ABYC Standard A-24 recommend carbon monoxide detectors on any boat with accommodation spaces and gasoline powered engines or generators. Carbon monoxide detectors are available as single and multi station systems, fully integrated systems and self- contained units with internal batteries.

We tried to stick it on the vinyl at the top of the entry to our stateroom, but it kept falling off. So it simply sits on the counter, right outside our bedroom.  While we haven’t had it go off on this boat, it did go off many times on Kokomo. Perhaps that’s because it was gas fueled and the cabin was so close to the engine.
