Scott and I (Ally) purchased our second boat in March 2019, after selling Kokomo in September 2018. It is a 2002 Bayliner 4087 Aft Cabin Motor Yacht. Bayliner only made this particular model a few years (1998-2002). In fact, the production was so limited that the factory never bothered to make a complete manual (at least that we can find- and I work for a Bayliner dealership).
Originally named “Web & Flow”, “Our Happy Day” is the boat’s second name (we didn’t name it). To rename it, we have to not only change it with the Coast Guard since it’s documented, but also go through the naming ceremony to avoid bad luck! Seems like a lot of work. Who knows, maybe the name will grow on us.
The Layout of the Bayliner 4087 Aft Cabin MY
What drew us to this boat was the layout. With spacious staterooms, a large galley and plenty of entertaining space, we fell in love immediately! You can easily invite guests to stay over night and with the staterooms a boat length apart, you have plenty of privacy!
Luxury Amenities
The storage in the galley is a bit funky and we do have to find some other storage spots for items. But for the most part, we’re happy with the storage. We were shocked to find out that the boat has “insta-hot” (which I haven’t used yet), soap dispenser in the galley, a water maker AND central vac! We bought the TV and simply use a digital antenna for it.
It does have an inverter so we can anchor, but it does not have a gen set. Instead it uses a portable generator. Not that we plan on anchoring much this summer. The boat has all of the updated electronics, including satellite. However, satellite is extremely expensive, so we won’t be hooking it up. The previous owners took the boat to Alaska and they needed it.
We use the auto-pilot all of the time. It makes for a comfortable and relaxing cruise.
Engines
Our 2002 Bayliner 4087 Aft Cabin MY has two 270hp Cummins diesel engines and a bow thruster as well. With its overall height and easy controls, this boat is much easier to handle (dock) than our first one.
The dinghy is a bit tricked out. It not only comes with a 30hp Yamaha outboard, but it has a stereo, vhf, gps, tower and spot lights!
So far, this has been a really comfortable boat, even in bad weather. Be sure to follow our blog and stay updated as we add a few upgrades.
